Sony Crackle has been the go to place for me for years mainly because of the Seinfeld episodes. I can honestly say that I’ve watched all of the Seinfeld episodes more than 5 times. When I had satellite TV I set my DVR to record every episode. Then when I became a cord cord so I started setting my converter box to record every episode. Seinfeld also airs on over-the-air TV for free.
The show was the first and the only of its kind and that’s why it’s still so popular. The memorable characters and quirky story lines that seemed to make a u-turn and dead end were great.
Then Seinfeld came back with a new show ‘Comedians in Cars getting coffee‘, which was a big hit but, as with any other hit show it left the platform to move on to bigger and better names. I liked the series but it wasn’t a deal breaker when it left the platform.
In March of 2019 Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment acquired Crackle from Sony and it will soon be rebranded as Crackle plus.
Not a big deal right? I’ll still be able to watch my Seinfeld, right? I need my weekly dose of Kramer, George, Elaine, Newman and miscellaneous characters who were only in one episode but watched so many times it seems like they were a regular. Nope, Seinfeld is gone, I searched the platform vigorously and it’s not there. No news release or press or nothing just took our favorite show and expect us not to notice.
Hopefully the new Crackle plus will give us some great shows. Sanford and Son was on there at one point but was eventually let go. A lot of the good shows seem to disappear without notice. I use to watch Sanford and son til’ I fell asleep even though they only had a few seasons.
I commend Crackle for not changing to a paid platform and even their original content like ‘Chosen’ was good but they stopped making new episodes. I still check back periodically to see if something of my liking is on there but for the most part I stick with Tubi and Pluto. My guess is that the new owners are planning on making it a paid service because, why not right. Seinfeld is currently available on other streaming platforms such as Hulu and TBS.
