Viacom CBS adds Showtime content to its free ad-supported platform, Pluto TV. The new channel labeled, “Showtime Selects” showcases over 250 hours of Showtime’s hit shows like, ‘The L Word‘, ‘The Affair‘, ‘Ray Donovan,’ ‘Billions,’ and ‘Californication.’
The sole intention of adding Showtime content to Pluto is to create “front door” opportunities to bring in new customers, says Michael Engleman, according to the “Exclusive” Variety article. This to me means consumers should expect Showtime blackouts on other platforms in the near future.
Showtime as a standalone service costs $8.99 per month. The channel itself is available on other streaming platforms as an add-on or as an in-package deal. Those interested can find Showtime Selects on Pluto TV channel 127 in the ‘Entertainment’ section.
