Surge protectors are a must have in any household in today’s technological society, many households even a 1 person household has at least 5 devices that need constant power; cell phones, tablets, televisions, router, modem, laptops, surround sound the list goes on.
When it comes to surge protectors for many people just having enough ports to plug-in everything they need is good enough, but as someone who has seen the damage an overloaded or cheap surge protector can do I’d say put some thought into what you buy. You don’t want to have $3,000 worth of electronics plugged into a $2.00 power strip or $1.00 extension cord you got from the dollar store. At the end of the day you want your electronics protected not just powered up.
QINLIANF 5 Outlet Extender with 4 USB Charging Ports
Design
Surge protectors come in all different shapes and sizes and right off bat I know this one isn’t for me, not because of the specs, which we’ll get into, but the design. I’ve tried this design and for me I just don’t like the eye level bulkiness it creates. Not good if you want everything out of sight out of mind area. But of all the wall-mounted surge protectors I’ve seen this one is special. The 3-sided design and spacing is perfect for bulky adaptors and the 3 USB ports and USB-C port are spaced apart far enough where you wouldn’t have an issue getting in there to plug something in. You have a green light indicator that lets you know your devices are protected.
Specs
You have 5 standard household outlets with 3 USB ports total 4.8 A, each USB A port features 5V/2.4A Max output. USB-C charging port features 5V/3A MAX. Built in smart technology, detecting charging devices and deliver optimal charging speed automatically, compatible with Kindle and most USB devices.
The Good Reviews
This reviewer gave it 5 stars: “Was looking for a new plug near my bedside table. Have to plug in a lamp, clock, my gun safe’s fingerprint reader, cell phone, tablet, earbuds, and CPAP machine. Obviously a 2 socket plug will not do, without a big, ugly surge protector sitting in the floor, and several ugly USB bricks. This replaces all of that nonsense, in one small device. It was so easy to install, just remove the cover, plug it in and screw it in. Fast charges my devices, and looks great. Will be buying more soon for the living room and other bedside tables for my wife and kid.”
Another 5 star reviewer stated: “Purchased this because of the USB options which was important for my firestick and roku plugs. Sticks out fairly far from the wall, so it you want it behind something, be sure to leave room. One is enough but I never have more than 2-3 items plugged into it at a time.“
Overall many of the 5 star reviews came from those only looking for extra outlets, not actual surge protection which is common. Most referred to the added USB outlets.
The Bad Reviews
Here’s a 2 star review: “Disappointing product. Under powered USB outlets and stopped powering several outlets on the unit after about three months.“
Another 2 star review: “I bought this for extra ports instead of running a surge protector strip and when I got it upon plugging in one of my usbs I wasn’t getting any power, as I started to pull the cord out, it powered on which is odd but yea two of the usb ports only work if u don’t push the usbs in all the way….“
Here’s a 1 star review: “had multiple things plugged into it. I had my iPad plugged in and when it was working it was charging for an hour and only at 20%. Green light won’t stay on as well. I had high hopes for this. Just a bit disappointed.“
Overall this product has a 4.7 of 5.0 star rating with over 33,000 reviews. Of the reviews 80 % gave it 5-stars, 14% 4-stars, 4% 3-stars, 1%t 2 stars and 2% a 1-star with most of the 1 and 2 star reviewers citing that the USB charging was either slow or stopped working.
My Take
I find solace in knowing that this product is shipped from Amazon with a 30-day money back guarantee and 12 product replacement. So if I was in the market for a product like this I’d go for it. The bad reviews tend to stick out especially with a product with a name like QINLIANF, I’m almost certain this is a fly-by-night overseas company. But when it’s backed by Amazon and priced at just under $16 why not. 80% of its buyers loved it. See It on Amazon
