As cord cutting becomes more popular a lot of companies are now willing to step out of their comfort zone and try there hand at different ventures. Recently it was announced that Amazon is looking to get into the cell service industry along with Charter and Google. But the thing is, these companies were already in this industry.
This new cord cutter era is changing the way people look at service providers as a whole. Like myself, I feel that many of these companies feel that 2019 is the ride or die year. It’s like the stock market, after this wave this opportunity wont come again for years or even decades once the dust settles.
Spectrum mobile first launched back in 2018, but before that and the purchase of Time Warner there was Road Runner Mobile.
Spectrum Mobile is only available to subscribers of Spectrum internet and currently there are only 2 plans:
Unlimited $45/Line- No monthly data usage limits for your smartphone or tablet (reduced speeds after 20 GB
By the Gig$14/GBPay only for the GB of shared data you use each month on your smartphone or tablet
You can either bring your own phone, purchase one right out or pay monthly, like a payment plan. They do have the latest phones so don’t worry.
Spectrum mobile uses Wifi for data, calling and texts and uses Verizon Wireless for a portion of their mobile services. Which is similar to Google Fi. It hops from wifi to wifi, but if no hotspots are available it will connect to Verizon’s mobile network.
With the unlimited plan the service throttles down after 20Gb which is better than a lot of other cell providers out there. I can see this being a game changer if people start leaning toward this type of service.
I spoke with a rep for Spectrum Mobile and she stated that hotspot is included with whatever plan you select. However it would be best to get the unlimited plan as with the ‘per gig’ plan you will most likely accrue more unexpected overage charges, as you will be pulling data from 2 devices one includes your phone.
