What is Kanopy and can anyone use it? Well it’s a free streaming service provided by your local library and educational institutions. And the answer to the second part is yes and no. You have to be a patron of either facility,( meaning faculty or student) to be able to access the content. How it works is the school or library pays to have the service available to its patrons or students.

They have a wide range of great content and they also provide closed captions, transcripts,playlists, clip creation and analytics for administrators so they can see viewing habits which helps them determine what content to keep and not keep, which in turn saves them money since most institutions pay per view. This service is great for college students because they can watch their favorite show or movie from home or a dorm.
