- After much backlash from cord cutters and media, failing streaming service Quibi has finally decided to add more stream friendly features.
After it’s initial launch It became clear to consumers, Quibi and it’s investors that something important was missing from the much anticipated streaming service. Just a few weeks after launching the mobile only streaming service quickly seen a decline in viewers. The biggest complaint was not having the ability to watch on the big screen.
First seen as the pioneer of a new era of viewing content, Quibi had no shortage of big money backers which includes big names like Disney, Lionsgate, MGM and many more. But after the first week or so the app dropped quickly from the charts, and the main reason? No ability what so ever to watch content on the big screen. The service was seen as another version of YouTube.
Features before recent update:
- No screen shots
- no screen cast
- could only watch on mobile devices
- Could not share content
The recent updates will allow you to cast Quibi to a bigger screen using Chromecast or Airplay. These features are just the first phase.
Quibi recently invited me to partake in a survey about the service and one of the questions was about the ability to share content. As of now even with the recent update their service can only be viewed by one person at a time. This along is a substantial blow to viewership. At least make it 2 concurrent streams, one for me and one for my spouse. Features like this is especially needed in times like today with COVID-19.
Their initial tactic was to blame COVID but there is plenty of data available that shows people are streaming content more than ever nowadays, and in fact there were a few companies that had to borrow spectrum from their peers to accommodate their customers internet activity.
Bottom line is not being able to watch on a big screen was Quibi’s donwfall, and now that they are taking steps to fix that issue I expect them to rise to the top of the charts as expected.
