When you look at the features of a smart television vs those of a media streaming device, is there really a big difference? In my opinion, no. Lets analyze some devices your average household might have and the features it offers

Most entertainment devices we use today have similar features. What does a tablet offer that a cellphone doesn’t, or a laptop vs. tablet, or a desktop vs. a laptop.

There may be slight differences but for media streaming and entertainment the apps and services are the same across the board. So are we wasting money when we buy more than one of these devices? Well the answer is yes and no. Let me explain.

Devices such as televisions and game consoles have a primary use. The ability to stream media is an added bonus, which is unfortunate for devices like the Roku and Fire Stick because that’s all they can offer.

But on the other hand if you have a full household and can’t afford to have smart televisions and game consoles for everyone in every room I can see why a media streaming device would be a good option. They are cheaper than smart televisions. Which brings up another point.

Smart televisions are getting cheaper by the month so soon pretty much every household will have one.

I believe the future for streaming is grim because when you look at it most people are on the go and the services that they offer are also available on our phones. Plus if all they can offer is the ability to watch tv shows and movies and maybe play a few games I see no longevity in that.

On a side note Amazon has released the Fire TV Cube which has all the media streaming abilities and the option to control your home lighting.  Is that enough for you to go out and buy it?

It’s core features are the same. Unless you plan on playing with your lights all day I would take a look at my 10 other pieces of electronics that now serve as paper weights and kids toys and seriously question whether or not it’s worth it.
