For years the only possible way to search for content on Pluto TV was to do a system search from your Roku or Fire TV’s home screen and hope that the movie or tv show was available on their platform.
Pluto’s latest update includes a different more user friendly interface and much needed search function. The only caveat is that the search feature is only available on Roku devices, with no news on when or if it’ll be available on other platforms.
How to Search on Pluto TV
- The search feature sits on the left side of the screen above the settings button. If you’re not seeing this function, try manually updating your Roku.
- Unlike most streaming platforms, Pluto only allows you to search for movies and channels, not actors, directors or genres. If you do search for an actor, director, etc, it will only show content related to the “words” you enter.
- The search Results lets you know whether the program you’re searching for is live or on-demand.
Overall, the search feature does little improve your Pluto TV experience, especially on an advanced streaming device like Roku. Not having the ability to do a deep search really limits the content you’re able to find and does nothing to improve browsability on their platform. You’re only limited to what you know.
