There are 2 important steps needed to become a successful cord cutter. First you need to decide which device will suit your needs. Today you have a plethora of options when it comes to streaming, you have streaming devices like Roku, NVidia Shield, Fire Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast and countless off brand Android tv boxes sold by overseas fly-by-night companies.

*Pro Tip*– It’s best avoid off brand Android TV boxes because they tend to not release software updates often and the device can become obsolete and some streaming services block these device device from accessing there content due to piracy issues.

What devices can you stream on?

PlayStation 4
PlayStation 4

There’s a short list of devices you can stream on but the amount of options available for a specific device are abundant. This list includes Smart TV’s, Streaming devices, mobile devices such as tablets and cell phones and game consoles. Smart tv’s for streaming should be your last option in my opinion simply because they are slow to add updates and their hardware is not built for constant key presses so they tend to lock up or lag.

What Content do you Like?

The next a final step is to determine what genre of content you prefer. Doing this can save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars per year on unused streaming service fees. Do you prefer live or on-demand content? Are you a movie or TV show person? See what’s available and choose the right service for you.

*Pro Tip– If you’re on the fence about what you like, check out some content on free platforms like Tubi, Distro, Crackle, Xumo and Pluto to narrow down your preferred preferences. All streaming service aren’t built the same. Most only offer on-demand content, those are usually the lower priced services, below $10 per month. The one’s that offer everything from live locals, sports and movies tend to be priced in the high double digits, services like YouTube TV, Hulu with Live and Sling TV.

The whole point of cord cutting is to pay less than what you were paying with cable or satellite. So don’t aimlessly chase content. These 2 steps will help you save many and also help you find the perfect streaming service. DirecTV has sole rights to NFL Sunday Ticket until 2022. ( Type a sport or Network in the Search bar located to the right for a list of streaming services offering that channel)
