Now that cord cutting has reached a point where consumers are comfortable in knowing there options, now’s a good time to point out the pros and cons of the two most popular free streaming platforms out there.

Tubi and Pluto both sold to major networks for a total of almost 1 billion dollars. Tubi sold to Fox for $440 million and Pluto sold to Viacom for $340 million.

A novice looking in would think that the two are alike, but there are some major differences in each service that sets them apart from each other. Which is why the 2 don’t share the same viewers. There may be a reason why Tubi sold for $100 million more that Pluto.

First, let’s look at the pros and cons of Pluto TV. Ironically for a popular service, their only con outweighs the all of their pros immensely. But their content and availability is what keeps them in heavy rotation with cord cutters.

1) This is the only con, but it’s the most important. Pluto has no search button what-so-ever. On any of their platforms. This makes it extremely difficult to find content. A perfect example of how frustrating this could be is, I recently discovered a fitness show called, “Fit to Fat to Fit” on YouTube. I wanted to watch it on the big screen so I decided to search for the show via the Roku search section. Pluto tv airs the show, so I proceeded to watch it on their platform.

After 1 episode the show went to Pluto’s home screen. The show didn’t show in my recent history. I had to manually search through Pluto’s huge library of content to find the show. I gave up and did another search on my Roku and decided to watch it from the Roku Channel instead. It would’ve taking me more than 10 minutes to find that show. I had no idea of what genre or network it aired on.

2) Pluto does offer a curated version of Live CBS news from various local markets. Curated channels tend to skip all the fluff and get straight to the point. Another perk is that Pluto is available on most mobile devices, tablets and even smart tv’s with no login required.

1) Tubi recently announced that they would be airing a live curated version a Fox news from various markets, making them the all-in-one platform for free news, movies and tv shows. One major perk to this platform is that viewers have easy, searchable access to great content. They have the most extensive genre list of any free streaming service on the market today. Along with Pluto, Tubi offers a large selection of content. But what sets the 2 apart is the search feature. You’ll never get lost wondering what to watch on Tubi’s platform.
