Today, up and coming smart camera company Wyze announced the launch of an official Wyze branded wireless outdoor smart camera. Before, Wyze customers purchased special outdoor mounts that made the indoor Wyze cam waterproof.
Just in the past year, Wyze has amassed a huge online community where consumers post interesting videos captured with their camera.
People post everything from birds feeding, bears roaming and eagles just hanging out. Some people even post continuous live feeds.,
What sets this apart from other Wyze cams is that this one runs on batter power. Currently their are no official solar power options. The starter bundle (available to those who pre-order) comes with 1 camera, 1 base station, power and ethernet cords and a power adapter.
The base station is what the camera connects to. You connect the base station to your internet and the base station connects to the camera.

On a live chat the Wyze team touched on important customer questions and concerns. One topic was the advantages and disadvantages of a battery powered camera.
Though continuous recording is possible, doing so will deplete your battery life faster. The camera can continuously be plugged into a power source but doing so will defeat the purpose of buying this device.
The team mentioned that the new Wyze Cam Outdoor isn’t better than Wyze Cam V2 nor is it it’s successor. It’s its own device. The team also mentioned they are working on a Doorbell feature and also on a Wyze cam V3.
Notable mentions:
- 3 to 6 month battery life on a single charge
- Not available in Canada
- Can also be used indoors
- add up to 4 cameras per base
- Two-way radio
