Today YouTube TV announced a substantial price increase to their OTT service bringing the price to $64.99 per month. In April 2019 I reviewed YouTube TV going over their pricing and features, and back then they offered 70 channels for $49.99 per month. Compared to the current price increase that’s a $1 per channel charge. Imaging if cable and satellite companies charged $1 per channel. But like I said back in 2018 when cord cutting first started to take off. It’s the same s**t but a different toilet. The price increases were inevitable, but I never thought they would rise so quickly.

In a recent post on the price increase YouTube TV said “We don’t take these decisions lightly, and realize how hard this is for our members. That said, this new price reflects the rising cost of content and we also believe it reflects the complete value of YouTube TV, from our breadth of content to the features that are changing how we watch live TV.

The same story over and over and over again. Many cable and satellite companies have cited this same message. But the the harsh reality is that the same companies that provided content for the cable and satellite industry are the same companies supplying content for the streaming industry. So it should be no surprise that they’re playing the same increase-um game.

Early this year YouTube TV announce the addition of some Viacom channels which most are available as a watered down version on their free streaming platform Pluto TV. BET Her, MTV2, MTV Classic, Nick Jr., NickToons, and TeenNickBack, then there was no mention of a price increase but I seen it coming a mile away.  YT TV also announced the addition of HBO Max and Cinemax. In the post the mentioned that YouTube TV is still the only service that offers unlimited DVR storage, Dark mode and being able to mark shows as watched.

Who do you blame?

I say it’s the same people, the THE CONTENT PROVIDERS.
