It’s been a while since a great Comic Book action film has been released. Since the release of the first Iron Man action film back in 2008 Marvel has pretty much owned the title as having the best action hero movies, and they held it down consistently for over a decade.

In fact, the franchise was so popular their streaming service Disney+ reached an astounding 54 million Subscribers in less than 6 months. The last film in the Marvel series was released back in 2019, but since then no comparable films have been released or even spoken of. Until now.

When –DC Universe- released its official trailers for ‘Black Adam‘ and ‘The Batman’ millions of viewers flocked to watch and even I myself felt a sense of enjoyment as if a void was being filled. Could 2020 be the decade for DC comics?

I myself think so, but only if their upcoming films exceeds the expectations of its previous films. DC Comics films are known to have a Dark undertone that doesn’t quite hold the interest of what we’d think would be their target audience. Also the fighting scenes and CGI aren’t nearly as good as what you’d see in a Marvel film.

  • Can DC Universe take Marvels place?

Covid-19 has made 2020 the year of at-home On-Demand movie releases.

  • The Hunt
  • Birds of Prey
  • The Invisible Man
  • Bloodshot

While gathering a bunch of friends and going to a movie theater may be ideal for some, most people reportedly enjoyed not having to deal with the movie going process. While theaters were closing their doors many Content providers like Disney+ and Apple+ seen this as an opportunity to grow their subscriber base.

With on-demand movie releases you can watch the movie whenever and wherever you want. Everyone can get together when the time is right as oppose to having to rush to be somewhere you really don’t want to be. The pros of at-home movies releases far outweigh the cons but even still there doesn’t seem to be a big push toward that direction.

  • But Why?

In comes Warner Media whos parent company is AT&T who is the owner of the new streaming serviceHBO Max-.

AT&T, during its lifespan has been dripping in controversy and over the past few years have seen many failures that include DirecTV Now subscriber number inflation, numerous failed and rebranded streaming services and of course the downfall of the #1 satellite TV provider DirecTV. It seems as if the company is only good at 2 things, internet and phone service, and as stated in this –Ars Technica- article AT&T’s 5G service doesn’t even match up to 4G. Though most of the time it seems as if the company wants to fail, I believe that there is a genuine interest in bringing good products to its consumers. AT&T comes across as one person trying to do too many things.

  • How does AT&T stay afloat?

AT&T is not shy about pulling their content from a platform. A perfect example of this was after the purchase of Warner Media, where they immediately pulled HBO from other competitors, and during that time HBO began pushing it’s streaming service ATT TV, which at the time when I spoke with a rep was suppose to be one of the selling points. But looking back, maybe HBO Max was already in the works.

AT&T owns some Big Players in the media industry and I believe with their past history of being gun hoe and ineffective coupled the resources they have they can create a Straight-to-On-Demand trend I think many viewers will enjoy and many media companies can learn from.
