TiVo 4k Stream users immediately faced a big setback after setting up their new device. “The remote does not control my devices”. TV, Soundbar, ECT. While most other smart streaming devices have an on-screen setup guide to do just this, the Stream 4k does not. TiVo really dropped the ball on this one. In, fact there are no instructions on how to setup the Stream remote to control other devices. Many users had to take to YouTube and Google to try and find a way. Even so, those method weren’t reliable.

After doing some research a commenter on Otantenna’s youtube channel asked about controlling the device with a TV remote. This got me thinking about CEC.

Consumer Electronics Control (CECis a feature of HDMI designed to control HDMI connected devices by using only one remote controller.

In order for CEC to work, both the TV and the device needs to have this feature. Your TV doesn’t even need to be a Smart TV to have this feature.

Activate CEC on your Devices:

  • 1 Activate CEC on the TiVO Stream 4K and on your Television
  • On you TV test the connection. Each TV is different most have a “connect” option that will display a list of CEC devices connected to your television.
  • that’s it.
