The Dr. Phil show has been a huge success since its inception into local television back in 2002. The show has been nominated for more than 25 awards, including 14 Daytime Emmy’s.

Although he’s currently not licensed to practice in any state, Phil McGraw does have the educational credentials. He graduated from Midwestern State University in 1975 with a B.A. in psychology. He went on to earn an M.A. in experimental psychology in 1976, and a Ph.D. degree in clinical psychology in 1979.

Fans love McGraw’s raw, blunt personality but his advice and methods have drawn criticism from psychotherapists and critics. McGraw said in a 2001 Chicago Tribune article: “I’m not the Hush-Puppies, pipe and ‘Let’s talk about your mother’ kind of psychologist.

If you don’t have access to local channels you can stream the Dr. Phil Show free on Youtube and Pluto TV. Youtube viewers can only watch short clips while Pluto tv viewers can watch both live and on-demand full length episodes. Viewers can also watch on any paid streaming service with local CBS stations.
