Giving the current advancements in technology we could all assume that major changes in over the air television were destined to happen. “Next Gen tv” or atsc 3.0 is gonna be the new wave of over the air television giving “cord cutters ” features that pay tv and streaming users have. But lets take a step back and look at what has happened in the last decade with ota tv.

When digital television rolled out many of us believed that we “had” to either buy a new tv or subscribe to a paid service which wasn’t the case. But many cord cutters at the time were frustrated at the thought of being forced to spend money on buying supplies to support the new digital format.

At the time it didn’t make sense for a lot of people but now it does because we have electronic programs guides and much better picture quality along with many other features.

Record Without Cable

Next-Gen tv has been 2 years in the making and set to be fully available in 2020, and is available in test markets now. It is said to have a more descriptive guide such as actors bio, ability to watch on mobile devices such as tablets, phone and car entertainment system and carry an IP number. Supports 4k video and 3d audio. These new features will definitely be perks for advertisers as there will most likely be stored information on its users.

And the biggest question of all is “will it be free?
