Acorn TV reached it’s 1 million subscriber milestone in 2019, which I like to call “the year of cord-cutting”. With so many OTT streaming services available in the U.S. (Sling TVHBO, Philo TV, ECT) a feat like this for a niche service at one point could of been thought to be impossible. Many consumers are taking to cord cutting because you have more control over what you watch, and On-Demand only services like Acorn TV puts all the control in your hands. Watch when you want, Watch where you want and cancel when you want without and penalties.

Acorn TV

Acorn Media, owned by RLJ entertainment which is fully owned by AMC Networks first started selling VHS tapes back in 1994 and eventually went into  DVD and Blu-Ray sales to keep up with the trends. In 2013 the company relaunched as a standalone streaming service offering monthly and annual subscriptions. And in the same year they started releasing original content,( Doc Martin), following in the footsteps of companies like Netflix, which in the same year released ‘House of Cards”. A few years later in 2016 they reached over 400,000 paid subscribers.

Acorn TV covers most genres of content. Mysteries, Dramas, Documentaries, Foreign Language, Feature Films and much more. Original content really is what sets them apart from other niche OTT services. They also offer classic shows like ‘Relative Strangers’ starring Oscar winner Brenda Ficker.
