Roku recently announced that an agreement has been reached with Charter Communications to have the Spectrum TV app back on Roku devices.
This dispute started back in December of 2020. Roku users who had already downloaded the Spectrum TV app were still able to view content whereas new customers looking to access the channel were out of luck.
We’re starting to see a pattern here that’s very similar to what goes on in the cable and satellite industries. Streaming has only been main stream for a little over 1 year and Roku has already had a handful of disputes. YouTube, HBO Max, Fox, AT&T and in September of 2020, Peacock threatened to blackout their content on Roku’s platform.
In a Statement to viewers, NBC said Roku’s “ unreasonable demands ultimately hurt both their consumers and their consumer equipment partners to whom they’ve promised access to all apps in the marketplace.”
I can guarantee that we’re gonna see more disputes from Roku in the future. Mainly because their focus in now on pleasing investors.
