ViacomCBS is said to acquire ChileVision from AT&T’s WarnerMedia Latin America. The details of the deal and where Viacom plans to put this content have yet to be released, but this acquisition brings ViacomCBS closer to becoming “The King of Streaming.”
VaicomCBS currently holds over 30 streaming services and TV networks under its umbrella, the biggest being Pluto TV, Paramount Plus, BET, nickelodeon and SHOWTIME.
“Latin America is one of the world’s fastest-growing streaming markets, and Chilevisión will be a key driver of our accelerated streaming strategy in the region,” says Raffaele Annecchino, president and CEO ViacomCBS Networks International.
ChileVision’s content is currently available on DirecTV, over-the-air television ( in select countries) and on the ChileVision website. Their content covers many genres; news, reality tv, cooking, tv shows and more. The big bonus for Latin/Spanish Americans is that this deal could bring in fresh content, and more of it.
Currently, there are only a handful of streaming services that cater to the Latin/Spanish speaking crowd.
- Sling– Various packages starting at $10/month
- Vidgo– 1 Spanish package. Currently offering a promo deal for $10/month
- Fubo TV – 1 Latino package for $33/month or $99/quarterly
Free streaming services like Tubi, and Pluto TV offer Latin/Spanish content, but it’s not new and fresh. This deal could bring in more, easily accessible content for Latin Americans or, this could put ViacomCBS in a position to strong-arm other streaming services for more money to carry their content.
